Declaration of wages
Do you pay salaries or commissions to employees? Do you provide them with taxable benefits such as life or health insurance? If your business is registered with the CNESST, you are required to file a wage statement return each year.
As you know, every worker must pay taxes to both levels of government (provincial and federal). In the case of a salaried employee, these taxes are deducted directly from the salary, hence the need for the employer to provide a salary declaration.
For an employer with many responsibilities, this essential step can be seen as extremely time-consuming, and may even be forgotten.
To avoid any penalties and to ensure that your company continues to thrive, trust EB Conseil Fiscal Inc. to prepare your payroll records.

The Wage Statement, a Mandatory Step for Your Company
If you are an employer, you are required to file an annual wage statement (salary paid to employees). This is as essential as bookkeeping, for example.
Your wage statement provides information on :
- Federal and provincial income tax deductions
- Employment Insurance premiums
- Quebec and Canada Pension Plan contributions
- Contributions to insurance plans.
At the end of the tax year, the employer also provides all its workers with tax slips: the federal employment slip (T4) and the provincial employment slip (RL-1). These two slips highlight the information listed above.
Once filed, your return will result in a Notice of Assessment. This notice shows the details of your assessment and any balance owing.
How Do I Report Wages to CNESST?
If you have reportable wages as an employer, there are several avenues through which you can make your return.
Online, there are two ways to do this. First, you can file your wage statement directly through My CNESST, your personal online space. It is also possible to choose a third party to complete your declaration for you, via a dedicated service on this space.
You don’t want to or can’t go through My CNESST space? No problem! Another option is to complete the wage statement form using access codes sent by mail. These codes are provided by the CNESST itself.
Finally, you can also request a paper form of your wage statement, to be sent by mail or by fax.
EB Conseil Fiscal Inc. will take care of your declaration, from entering the information on the form to transmitting the document.
The Different Amounts to Declare
If you report wages, you should know that various amounts must be reported to calculate the insurable wages you paid during the year.
On the declaration form, you will have to declare, among other things
- employment income (statement of earnings)
- income of self-employed persons considered to be workers
- compensation, if any, for volunteer workers
- surpluses
Providing these different amounts, especially with the calculation of the surplus, requires time and a judicious manipulation of your company’s data. EB Conseil Fiscal Inc. will be pleased to assist you with this process.
